Prevention
Like other influenza illnesses, H1N1 flu spreads from person to person through coughing or sneezing from people who are sick. You cannot get H1N1 from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork products is safe. There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Take these everyday steps to protect your health:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with your sleeve or a tissue when your cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Always stay home from work or school when you’re sick, and limit contact with others to keep them from getting sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Crime Statistics

Jeanne Clery Campus Security Act
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, commonly referred to as the Clery Act, requires higher education institutions to collect, report and disseminate crime data to the campus community and U.S. Department of Education; to provide timely warnings of reported crimes that represent a threat to the safety of students or employees; and to make public their campus security policies. In compliance with this legislation, Lower Columbia College disseminates safety alerts to faculty, staff students and the community, produces an annual crime report, and maintains a log of reported criminal incidents.
