For Immediate Release
February 9, 2016
Students will form teams and compete for the highest scores by demonstrating basic to advanced welding and torch skills learned in high school. First, second and third place teams will receive a trophy to display at their high school.
Winning results will be featured on the LCC website at lowercolumbia.edu/high-school-programs/welding-competition.
The competition gives students an opportunity test their welding skills and learn about future welding career opportunities. They get a chance to work in LCC’s welding lab, where actual welding courses take place.
Date: February 11
Time: 4:45 - 8 pm
Location: Physical Science Building and Vocational Building (Welding Lab)
The number of students participating in the competition continues to increase each year. Strong community support is evident from the number of welding companies and professionals who generously donate supplies and materials. Last year’s competition received welding related donations valued at over $2,500.
LCC offers students enrolled in welding courses at local area high schools the opportunity to earn Tech Prep credits to help jump start their educational goals post high school.
LCC’s Welding Program prepares students for welding jobs in manufacturing and maintenance. Associate degree and certificate options are available.
