Lower Columbia College invites local high school juniors and seniors and their parents, as well as current LCC students, to an informational workshop on applying for college scholarships.

College staff will share information on how/where to find scholarships, what scholarship readers are looking for, how to write a good essay, and share tips and tricks for staying organized. These tips can be used when applying for scholarships to any college or university.

Specific information about applying for scholarships to attend LCC will also be provided. Each year the Lower Columbia College Foundation awards over $250,000 in aid to current and new LCC students. To apply for multiple awards at LCC, students complete a single, online application available each February.

LCC scholarships are based on many different criteria, such as:

  • Program of Study: Nursing, Art, Automotive, Chemistry, Education, and more
  • Merit: Meet certain GPA requirements (typically ranging from 2.0 to 3.5), or demonstrate community service or leadership
  • Need: Demonstrate financial need based on your most recent tax return and federal poverty guidelines
  • General: A wide range of students will qualify for general scholarships with broad, flexible criteria

These funds can be used to pay for tuition, student fees, books, and supplies at Lower Columbia College. Some scholarships can also be used to pay for other expenses related to going to school, like transportation or child care
