Lower Columbia College is pleased to announce that two campus buildings have been awarded the 2016 Excellence in Masonry Award from the Masonry Institute of Washington (MIW).
The MIW awards honor outstanding architectural design where masonry products—brick, concrete block, stone, tile, terrazo and marble—figure prominently into the overall building design. Awards were featured in the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce (DJC), November 10, 2016.

LCC's new 70,000 square foot Health & Science Building received an honor award. Masonry products scale two stories of the building. Sloped roofs float over glazed openings to reduce scale.Translucent solar panels are integrated into the overhangs, offering a view of the future science of solar energy.

LCC's renovation of the 1960s era Myklebust Gymnasium received a merit award. The project integrated the 57-year old structure in an urban campus context by utilizing extensive exterior brick, contrasting exposed steel products, and maximizing transparency.
The building features a gym; fitness center; classroom space for dance, yoga, health and continuing education classes; community spaces; coaching offices, locker rooms, a study lounge and a juice bar.
