Important information about Placement Testing policies, procedures, recommendations, along with answers to frequently asked questions.
Placement tests for LCC students are free.
Students are not required to schedule their placement tests, and can test on a walk-in basis Monday-Thursday starting at 10 am. The last placement test is given at 3 pm.
Math placement scores are valid for 5 years. Students must retest after 5 years to get an updated placement recommendation.
Course placements are mandatory for all students, however, there are various methods of placement depending on the type of student.
Please see Placement Testing to find which placement methods you qualify for.
Students are encouraged to retake their math test. We frequently see students who put in the effort to study and retest, and end up with a higher placement than their original efforts. This can potentially save you time and money!
Please see Math Placement Resources for a list of practice and preparation options.
Students get one retest for each section of the math test. If students take advantage of the additional math practice options they can earn two retests per section. Students must wait 24 hours before retesting.
English Directed Self-Placement takes about 20-30 minutes. Students should expect the math portion of the placement test to take between 1-2 hours, depending on the student's level of math proficiency. English and Math placement do not have to be completed on the same day.
Please bring only your photo ID. Any additional items will have to be stored in a locker.
If English is not your first language, please notify our testing staff. We will connect you with additional resources, including the English as a Second Language (ESL) page.
