Due to the Covid situation, the Math Achievement Center will remain closed. We hope to open back up as soon as it is possible. Please see the tutoring center for assistance with your math.

Students enrolled in pre-college math classes can work on their own, or get assistance from tutors or the instructor in the Math Achievement Center (MAC). Located in Main 127.

About the Math Achievement Center

  • Prerequisite includes Placement test or instructor permission.
  • Students use Canvas to complete their orientation on the first day of class.
  • Students are required to take proctored exams. These can be done at LCC's Test Proctoring Center at no charge, or they can pay a fee to use the online proctoring service ProctorU to take their exams

Information to Help you Succeed

Attendance in the MAC is arranged and should be treated like a regular class that you attend daily at a specific time.

Students are required to complete an attendance form in Canvas each week where they report their time spent reading, doing homework, or practicing for exams. Students are expected to do a minimum of five hours if they are enrolled in five credits and three hours if they are enrolled in 1-3 credits.

  • Complete homework sets and exams by the recommended dates.
  • Spend time in the MAC lab to get help from the instructors, assistants and tutors.
  • Use resources available with MyMathLab.
  • Use Tutoring Services when the MAC is closed.
  • Talk to an instructor about your concerns and ask questions.

  • Math 088/089 - PreCollege Math II
  • Math 098/099 - PreCollege Math III

These math courses have an electronic textbook available through Pearson Education.

  • Homework assignments need to be completed at MyMathLab.
  • A minimum score of 80% on homework is required to take the exam.
  • All assignments need to be completed in order to take the exam.
  • Homework assignments are listed in the syllabus and in Canvas.
  • All tests must be taken in order.
  • Once you have completed the chapter homework with a minimum score of 80%, you will be able to take the test. The post tests on MyMathLab are recommended.
  • You may take tests before and after the deadlines. The deadlines are suggested to stay on track.
  • The only test you will be allowed to take during finals week is the final exam.
  • Scientific calculators are allowed for math 79-99. No calculators are allowed in math 78.
  • Students can take proctored exams using ProctorU for a fee. There is more information in the syllabus.
  • Students in math 88-99 that do not score 70%, must do a retake.
  • The maximum score you can receive on a retake is 73%.
