What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid helps students and their families pay for college expenses, both direct (charged to your college student account including tuition and fees) and indirect (including, but not limited to books, supplies, living expenses, and transportation to/from college). There are several types of financial aid including grants, scholarships, loans and work study.

  • Grants – generally no repayment necessary; based on need.
  • Scholarships – generally no repayment necessary; based on merit and/or need.
  • Loans – repayment is required; loan type is based on need. Regardless of need, all students are eligible for some type of federal student loan.
  • Work Study –work for an hourly rate; based on need

Financial aid awards may include a combination of various types of aid.

Should I apply for the FAFSA or WASFA?

There is no fee to apply. Submitting your FAFSA or WASFA is the first step in applying for financial aid and scholarships. It is highly recommended that you submit your FAFSA or WASFA as soon as possible after October 1 and no later than 6 weeks before you plan to begin at LCC.

I am a U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident of the U.S.

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for many scholarship applications, whether or not you qualify for need-based aid.
  • FAFSA is required to qualify for certain types of jobs on campus.
  • Even if you don't qualify for grants, you may still be eligible for loans or other aid. See our Scholarship page!
  • No income cut-off for certain types of aid, such as loans and some scholarships. How much money your family makes is only one factor in determining your eligibility.
  • The Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WAFSA) is for students who are ineligible to apply using the FAFSA due to immigration status, parent's immigration status, or being in federal loan default.
  • Tuition Payment Plan: A payment allows students to make payments in two or three installments. See Payment Plan options here
    • You might need a payment plan if...
    • You're paying for school on your own.
      • Financial aid did not cover all of your tuition and fees.
      • You missed the financial aid deadline and your financial aid will not be processed in time.
  • Veteran benefits: In addition to veterans and service members, spouses and children may also qualify for benefits. Please contact Jessica Wilks (360-442-2393) for more information.
  • Employer tuition assistance or reimbursement: Some employers will help pay for tuition or offer reimbursement for tuition. Check with your employer!

Payment in full: Payments can be made online via your ctcLink account (see here), over the phone (360-442-2210), or in-person.

LCC offers a variety of different programs and grants that can support you with college related expenses such as childcare, books, tuition and more!
