GED Testing

Sign up at GED.com.
Signing up online gives you 24/7 access from your computer, smartphone, or tablet. There is no cost to sign up.

You will need an email address in order to create your account. If you do not have an email address, GED provides the link to create one.

You may take the GED if you have not graduated from an accredited high school, have not received a high school equivalency diploma and are not currently enrolled in an accredited high school. You must terminate your enrollment in high school and not be currently enrolled in any high school course work before taking a GED test.

  You must also be a Washington State resident and provide a valid current Washington State government issued ID at the time of testing. If you cannot provide identification, you cannot take the test.

$36 per test, or $144 for the entire GED series (4 exams).

You will receive one $10 retake for every GED® test subject you purchase but don’t pass. You have 365 days after your full-price test to use this retake.

The GED series consists of 4 parts:

• Science (90 Minutes)
• Social Studies (75 Minutes)
• Reasoning Through Language Arts (150 minutes with a 10 minute break)
• Mathematical Reasoning (115 Minutes)

Take Preparatory Classes

Contact Lower Columbia College College and Career Preparation at (360) 442-2580 to sign up for College and Career Preparation classes at just $25 per quarter. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

Study on Your Own

GED textbooks are available at the LCC Bookstore and at your local library.

Valid Washington State ID required

Bring a valid Washington State government issued photo ID. If you cannot provide identification, you cannot take the test. No exceptions.

If you have a valid and current out-of-state government issued photo ID, you must provide supplemental documentation proving Washington residency. Proof may come in the form of: a current utility bill, current apartment lease, or property tax bill, etc.

Travel light!

Nothing else besides your government issued ID is necessary for testing. If examinees choose to use their own calculator they must provide a TI-30xs. No other calculators will be accepted.

All other items must be stored in a locker. We will provide you with a locker key to store these items. Friends and family must wait outside the testing room (in the Admissions Center lobby).

Time Limits

Each part of the GED exam has a time limit:

• Science (90 Minutes)
• Social Studies (75 Minutes)
• Reasoning Through Language Arts (150 minutes with a 10 minute break)
• Mathematical Reasoning (115 Minutes)

The GED® test will have a passing score of 145 for each subject. Therefore, students will need to reach a score of at least 145 on each subject and a total score of 580 or higher across all four subjects in order to receive the GED® test credential. See below for the full score scale:

Below Passing: 100 – 144
Passing Score: 145 – 164
GED® College Ready: 165 – 174
GED® College Ready + Credit: 175 – 200

Scores will be available within 3 hours of completion of each test module by logging into your account at GED.com.

  Lower Columbia College no longer issues paper copies of GED transcripts in the Testing Center.

Special accommodations are available for people with disabilities. Accommodations may take at least one month to process. Contact the Testing Office or see GED Testing Service/Accommodations.

Spanish practice tests are available. You can opt to take your GED exam in Spanish when you schedule by logging in to your account at GED.com.
