The General Educational Development (GED) credential is widely recognized by colleges, training schools, and employers as equivalent to a high school diploma.

Most colleges and universities accept GED score reports in place of high school transcripts. Most employers also accept the GED. In order to receive federal financial aid, a student must have completed high school, obtained a GED, or show Ability to Benefit.
