For Immediate Release
December 20, 2013
"The closure will enable the college to save utility costs for nine consecutive days during a period when colder weather and limited daylight hours generally require a heavier use of heat and building lights", said Vice President of Administration Nolan Wheeler. "It also provides an opportunity for minor maintenance and cleaning projects while campus buildings are unoccupied."
Most staff will take vacation or unpaid leave for the four previously-scheduled work days. The campus was already scheduled to be closed on December 25 and January 1 for the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. The college will be open regular hours Monday and Tuesday, December 30 and 31, and Thursday and Friday, January 2 and 3. Winter classes begin Monday, January 6.
Online registration and online bookstore ordering services for textbooks will remain in operation during the closure through the college website at www.lowercolumbia.edu.
