Steps to Register for Classes

New Student Registration

Students who have never attended Lower Columbia College before, and who plan to register for classes leading to a degree or certificate, must apply for admission to Lower Columbia College.

Apply as early as possible to allow yourself enough time to complete all related tasks. Specific deadlines apply.

Follow these steps to register for classes (applies to first-time students only)

Apply for Financial Aid

To receive any kind of financial aid, students must meet eligibility requirements and complete the application process which included applying for the FAFSA. Specific deadlines apply. Students are strongly encouraged to apply as early as January 1.


Determine your Program

Research your desired area of study. Print out programs you are interested in and bring them with you to advising appointments and orientations. If you are unsure of your program, meet with a Career Specialist in the Career Center to explore your options.


Complete Placement Testing

New students planning to earn a degree or certificate, transfer to a four-year institution, or participate in the Running Start program need to complete Placement Testing before meeting with an advisor or registering for classes at Lower Columbia College.


Attend New Student Orientation

New students will receive assistance with registration and other tasks during New Student Orientation.

Make an appointment to attend New Student Orientation by contacting the Testing Center at 360.442.2353. Advisors will help you register for your classes and provide necessary enrollment and related information and instructions. Please bring your program planners and placement test scores. Prepare yourself ahead of time by browsing the class schedule and mapping out the time you have available for class, work and studying.


Pay Tuition and Fees

Tuition due dates are posted on the academic calendar. A Tuition Payment Plan is available for students who are interested in making smaller, more convenient monthly payments. Students who have not made arrangements to pay by the deadline will be dropped from their classes.


Purchase or Rent Textbooks

Textbooks may be purchased in person or online at the LCC Bookstore. A new Textbook Rental Programs save students up to half the cost of a new book. Please inquire at the Bookstore.


Attend Canvas Orientation

Students taking online or enhanced courses may be required to attend an online orientation. This self-paced course contains short videos designed to help students learn how to use Canvas. Canvas is the learning management system used by LCC to deliver online courses.

Continuing Students Registration

Register early to make sure you get the classes you need! Specific deadlines apply.


Find out your Earliest Registration Time

  • You should have received an email with your assigned advisor.
  • Alternatively, view your assigned advisor on your student schedule.

Meet with your Program Advisor

See your advisor to plan your class schedule and get your quarterly PIN. If you have not received an email with your assigned advisor, please contact the Entry Center.


View and Select Classes in the Current Class Schedule

The class schedule is published online and in print once each quarter. The print version is mailed to homes weeks before each quarter begins. Advantages of using the online version include adding classes to your private list, and viewing how many seats are available in each class.

Graduation Processing

Students nearing graduation should plan to meet with their advisor two quarters before they plan to graduate, in order to ensure you are on track to complete all requirements for the degree or certificate you are earning. Graduation applications are due 45 days before the end of the quarter. You must submit a graduation application in order to participate in the yearly Commencement Ceremony.

Summer & Visiting Students Registration

Students planning to attend classes for credit during summer quarter should follow these instructions. Register as early as possible in order to get the classes you need. Specific deadlines apply.


Apply for Admission

Degree or certificate seeking students: please indicate your major area of study.

Students not seeking a degree or certificate: please indicate 'summer' as your major area of study.

View and Select Classes in the Summer Class Schedule

Be sure to check for prerequisite courses. If a prerequisite is required, please submit an unofficial copy of your transcript (see below), together with the course you wish to register for, to the Registration Office.


Send Official Transcript

Official transcripts must be received by June 1. Complete Transcript Evaluation Request. You request will be expedited to accommodate summer enrollment.
