The Early Childhood Education program provides students with academic coursework and field experience necessary to become a teacher of children ages birth to eight years. The program allows the student to experience working with young children and mentor teachers. The program includes teaching methods in reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, arts, and assessment techniques. Students can complete Washington State Stackable Certificates while working toward a two-year degree. All early childhood classes are STARS approved, allowing students to meet yearly state requirements while working on a certificate or degree.
There are three pathways in Early Childhood at LCC, an Associate in Applied Science (AAS), an Associate in Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T) for student who plan to apply to LCC's BAS-TE (Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education) program, and an Associate in Arts-Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) for students who plan to transfer to a university.
Students working in participating Early Achiever settings may qualify for the Early Achiever Grant, which covers tuition and books.
