Scott Houston
Scott Houston is a first generation college student who has dealt with long-term homelessness, drug addiction, and mental illness that went untreated for many years. Scott has learned a lot about his issues through his chemical dependency studies and psychology classes at LCC, and plans to apply what he’s learned to a career helping others. He intends to transfer to Washington State University Vancouver in the fall to pursue a degree in the psychology of human development. Ultimately, he would like to work in the field of social services. In addition to maintaining highest academic honors at LCC, Scott volunteers regularly to help others dealing with homelessness and food insecurity.
Brenna Kandoll
After earning a degree in business management from LCC, Brenna Kandoll found her passion working as an engineer’s assistant. She’s back for another associate degree, this time in engineering. Brenna intends to transfer to Washington State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Her career goal is to work as a professional civil engineer, either in the structural or construction field. According to Brenna, women make up only 14% of the civil engineers in this country. She would like to break barriers and become a revolutionary by owning her own engineering company one day. She has maintained highest academic honors at LCC in spite of heavy work and volunteer commitments.
