Substance Use Disorder Studies
Torrey Burgoyne
Torrey Burgoyne received an associate degree in substance use disorder studies in fall 2024. He was hired into his full-time position at Columbia Wellness several months before graduating, starting his career while completing his required internship hours and attending college full-time. He works as a substance use disorder professional trainee for the outpatient substance use disorder team. He also assists in the wellness recovery center and works with outside agencies, primarily for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder inpatient programs. Educationally, Torrey’s next step is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in mental health from Washington State University online, and also plans to earn a master’s degree in social work.
Torrey is a father of three, loves to travel, and collects many things, including shoes. He returned to LCC 21 years after first enrolling. During the gap, he lived with active addiction for over 20 years. In the second half of his life, Torrey’s goal is to help his clients escape their own addiction, live their best lives, and unlock their full potential.
About Scholastic Achievement Awards
Lower Columbia College does not designate a valedictorian. Instead, we recognize three students with the highest grade point averages and most rigorous coursework in the following categories: baccalaureate, academic transfer, and professional/technical. Honorees are recognized during commencement.
