Veterans: Become a Student

Completing the admissions process is the second step towards becoming an LCC student. For assistance with the process please contact a Veterans Services representative listed at the bottom of this page.

Steps to Complete the Admissions Process

Step 1

Apply for Admission to Lower Columbia College

Apply for Admission

Step 2

Complete Placement Testing

  • Placement testing is administered at the Testing Center located in the Admissions Center.
  • Placement testing helps tailor your needs and interests to the appropriate level of English and math courses, and helps your advisor recommend the best course of study.
  • Veteran students who plan to earn a degree or certificate need to complete Placement testing before meeting with an advisor or registering for classes at Lower Columbia College. However, if you already have math and/or English credits, you don't have to take the corresponding test(s).
  • Study/prep materials available at the Testing Center or click the link above to access them online.

Step 3

Complete the New Student Orientation

All new students are required to go through New Student Orientation. The New Student Orientation is now online. After completing your orientation, you will be scheduled to meet one-on-one with an advisor. Advisors will help you register for your classes and provide necessary enrollment related information and instructions.

Step 4

Bring your class schedule to the Veteran Services window in the Admissions Center

  Please complete this step!

If you do not bring your class schedule to the Veteran Services window, you will not be certified through the VA to receive benefits.

Step 5

Apply for Financial Aid

It is optional, but strongly recommended that you apply for Financial Aid

Financial Aid does not count your GI Bill® as income against you, meaning you may still qualify for financial aid grants. Note: grants are not the same as loans

Please be aware of all key financial aid dates and deadlines listed on the Academic Calendar or on the Financial Aid Key Dates and Deadlines page.

For assistance with the FAFSA or other financial aid processes please see Career and Employment Services located in the Admissions Center. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome during regular business hours.

If you need assistance with any of the steps listed above, please stop by the One-Stop Center in the Admissions Building, call us at (360) 442-2322, or send an email to
