Teach a Class

Community Education is always looking for new talent!

We are currently scheduling for September - December 2008. Please submit course ideas prior to April 30.

If you have experience teaching, training, mentoring, or speaking in public, and you are interested in supplementing your income by sharing a passion, skill or hobby, we would love to hear from you.

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.
ALBERT EINSTEIN

Some ideas for potential topics include:
    = Knitting                           = Woodworking
    = Parenting                       = Jewelry Making
= Holiday Themes           = Quick Cooking
    = Technology                    = Fitness
    = Gardening                      = Foreign Languages
= Home Improvement     = Auto Basics

Please browse through the back pages of our quarterly schedule to see if the topic you would like to teach is already being offered. We try not to duplicate class titles because it reduces the enrollment per class, resulting in cancelled classes.

Things to keep in mind:
= You don't have to be an expert.  Most people who want to learn the basics want to learn just that: the basics.
= You may not have an answer for every question you are asked, but finding the answer benefits everyone.
= If you are already teaching a course locally, please change the content enough that you won't be splitting your enrollments and competing with yourself.
= You may not promote your business or business services in Community courses.
= We reserve the right to offer, retain, and cancel classes at our sole discretion.  For instance, if a class topic doesn't get enough enrollment to run a few times, we may discontinue it until a later time.
= If you will be teaching children, senior citizens, or handicapped students, you are required to obtain and submit a records check from the State Patrol at your expense.

Community Education is a self-supporting department within Lower Columbia College.  The fees charged for classes cover both instructor salary and program overhead. Community Education positions are not full-time positions, nor will they move into full-time, so the best candidates for instructing with Community Education are enthusiastic and helpful individuals who have a sincere desire to enrich their community.
