Taking the GED Test

Signing up to take the test:

  1. Check in at the Testing Office window in the Admissions Building
  2. Pay the $75 testing fee at the cashier’s window in the Admissions Center.  If an outside agency is paying for the tests, take any vouchers or paperwork to the cashier.
  3. Present your receipt of payment, Social Security Number, signed picture ID, and release form (see below) at the Testing Office in the Admissions Center. Acceptable forms of signed ID include driver’s licenses, passports, Military, or government identification cards, and ID issued by motor vehicle departments to non-drivers, which shows the name, address, birth date, signature, and photograph.
  4. Complete all required paperwork for the GED test.
  5. Sign up for the test date you want (if space is available).

If you're under 19, you'll also need a release form:

Download High School Release:
Any person age 16-18 who has not graduated from high school, is not enrolled in a public or private high school program, and who has been adjudged by a Washington State school district to have a substantial and warranted reason for leaving the regular high school education program must complete and submit this release form to their high school officials and then to the Testing Office at Lower Columbia College.

Download Home School Release
Any person age 16-18 who has completed a program of home-based instruction--in compliance with RCW 28A.225.010 (4) as certified by the written and notarized statement of the parent(s) or guardian(s) who provided the home-based instruction--must fill this release out, have it notarized and submit it to the Testing Office at Lower Columbia College.
  

On the test day:

  1. Check in at the Testing Office in the Admissions Center 15 minutes before test time.
  2. Present signed picture ID (see the above list for acceptable forms of identification).

Scores will not be released over the phone.

Do you have special needs due to a disability?

Special editions of the GED test(s) and special accommodations are available.  Discuss your needs with the GED examiner, who will help process your request for special testing.  Please contact the Testing Office at 360.442.2353 for more information.
