Faculty Quality

LCC Faculty are here because they want to teach.  Student learning is LCC's priority, and it's their priority.  Even so, we get to brag about them and their accomplishments.

In the past few years, one instructor traveled to India and another to Bulgaria on Fulbright Fellowships.  Two have summered in Spain, writing poetry on fellowships. One is an international peace activist.

Others have won state and national honors.  They've published books, poems, and scholarly articles, written music, made films, and created wonderful art.

But you can best measure their quality in their students' accomplishments:

  • LCC's Forensics (Public Speaking) Team, coached by Michael Dugaw, won the 2006 national championship in Parliamentary Debate for small and medium-sized colleges.
  • LCC's literary magazine, Salal, with Joseph Green as advisor/instructor, was named the best small college student-produced magazine in the country in fall of 2005. The previous year, Salal was named best in the state.
  • Photography instructor Judy VanderMaten's students are frequent finalists in the Annual College Photography Contest.
  • Our Anatomy and Physiology students regularly distinguish themselves on the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society's national examination. Their instructors: Dr. Clint Benjamin and Rhonda Meyers.
  • LCC's Nursing Program is considered one of the best, with a very high pass rate for the certification exams.
  • 2006 graduate Susan McNally was named to the First Team All-USA Academic Team and was named Washington's New Century Scholar by the Phi Theta Kappa 2-year college honor society.
  • 2006 graduate Tadd Wheeler received a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship, one of only 38 given for the entire country.
  • 2005 graduate John Lynch received a Phi Theta Kappa Leader of Promise Award, one of only 30 given.
  • LCC's Gamma Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa won several national, international and regional awards in 2006.
  • Our graduates have earned scholarships to Tulane University, Rice University, Texas A&M, Lewis and Clark College, Reed College, University of Rochester and many more excellent colleges and universities.

We don't take the credit for their accomplishments, but the fact that these outstanding students chose to attend LCC and always speak very highly about their LCC instructors speaks for itself!
