Why it is used
It was developed by organizational developers at Case Western Reserve University in the early 1990’s. Essentially, Appreciative Inquiry uses a variety of techniques to draw out the good things about individuals and organizations, in order to build on those strengths. Weaknesses are not ignored, but are minimized over time by the emphasis on building strengths.
