Writing a Teaching Effectiveness Plan

Teaching Effectiveness Plan Requirements

Faculty Contract (See Section 808)

Full time tenured academic employees teaching classes must submit a concise written proposal outlining his/her plans for three years which will improve and or maintain teaching effectiveness. This plan must be agreed upon by the supervising administrator and the academic employee. Think of this plan as a dynamic document which may be changed within the three year period depending on changes in priorities or emerging professional development activity opportunities. teaching assignments. Also note that prior approval for PDU’s must show a direct link to the teaching effectiveness plan. Issues that may be included in this report are as follows:

  1. Self assessment from student evaluations
  2. Modification in teaching techniques based on self assessment
  3. Use of technology in teaching
  4. Plan for addressing whether students are achieving intended student outcomes (formative assessment)
  5. Up-grading professional skills through coursework
  6. Being responsive to diverse student needs
  7. Course curriculum development
  8. Program development

Full-time Tenured Faculty TEP Example

Full time temporary academic employees with a teaching assignment employed for more than one consecutive year must develop, with approval from the supervising administrator, a concise teaching effectiveness plan by the end of fall quarter of the second year of employment. This plan will outline activities for a term to be mutually determined between the employee and the administrator which will improve and or maintain teaching effectiveness.

  1. Self assessment from student evaluations
  2. Modification in teaching techniques based on self assessment
  3. Use of technology in teaching
  4. Plan for addressing whether students are achieving intended student outcomes (formative assessment)
  5. Upgrading professional skills through coursework
  6. Being responsive to diverse student needs
  7. Course curriculum development
  8. Program development

Full-time Temporary Faculty TEP Example

Professional/technical faculty must design a teaching effectiveness plan that incorporates the following elements:

  1. Identify priorities for professional growth. This plan includes at least five professional development activities that are linked to the professional-technical faculty skill standards within the certificate period.
  2. Measurable outcomes and objective standards for measurement of skill standard achievement.
  3. A timeline for successful achievement of outcomes

Professional/Technical Faculty TEP Example

All full time tenured and temporary academic employees must prepare a concise annual report of progress of the teaching effectiveness plan no later than the ninth week of spring quarter. Annual progress reports should be thoughtful and reflective… like, “What have I learned about my teaching/program this year and how can I improve my service to students?”

Example of Annual Report
