Writing a Teaching Effectiveness Plan

Teaching Effectiveness Plan (TEP) Requirements for:

Full-Time Tenured Academic Employees

Full-time tenured academic employees teaching classes must submit a concise written proposal outlining his/her plan for three years which will maintain or improve teaching effectiveness. This plan must be agreed upon by the supervising administrator and the academic employee. Think of this plan as a dynamic document which may be changed within the three year period depending on changes in priorities or emerging professional development activity opportunities as well as changes in teachings assignments. Also note that approval for PDUs must show a direct link to the teaching effectiveness plan (See Appendix A of the contract). Consult section 701.4 College Service Obligation in the contract to get an idea of other activities which may be addressed in the TEP. Other issues that may be included in this plan:

  1. Self assessment from student evaluations
  2. Modification in teaching techniques based on self-assessment
  3. Use of technology in teaching
  4. Plan for addressing whether students are achieving intended student outcomes
  5. Up-grading professional skills through coursework
  6. Being responsive to diverse student needs
  7. Course curriculum development
  8. Activities supporting program development
  9. Community outreach

Full-Time Professional/Technical Faculty

Professional/technical faculty must design a teaching effectiveness plan that is approved by the appropriate supervising administrator and incorporates the following elements:

  1. Identify priorities for professional growth. This plan includes at least five professional development activities that are linked to the professional/technical faculty skill standards within the certificate period.
  2. Measurable outcomes and objective standards for measurement of skill standard achievement.
  3. A timeline for successful achievement of outcomes.

Full-Time Temporary Academic Employees

Full-time temporary academic employees with a teaching assignment employed for more that one consecutive year must develop, with approval from the supervising administrator, a concise teaching effectiveness plan by the end of fall quarter of the second year of employment. This plan will outline activities for a term to be mutually determined between the employee and the administrator which will detail how the faculty will improve and/or maintain his/her teaching effectiveness. Consult section 701.4 College Service Obligation in the contract to get an idea of other activities which may be addressed in the TEP. Other issues that may be included in this plan:

  1. Self assessment from student evaluations
