For Faculty
Every course syllabus should include a disability statement inviting students with disabilities to contact the Disability Support Services Office (DSS).
If a Student Discloses a Disability
Ask the student if they have contacted the DSS office. Ask to see their Academic Accomodations form describing accommodations the college is providing. Sign the form, give the student a copy, keep a copy, and return the white copy to DSS. If the student does not have an Academic Accomodations form, refer them to DSS.
If a Disability is Suspected
Share your concerns with the student and/or refer the student to DSS for further discussion and guidance. It is the student’s decision whether to contact DSS; however, to receive accommodations, disclosure to DSS with proper documentation is required.
