Interested in Nursing?

The LCC Nursing Program is committed to providing excellence in nursing education. Four options are available.


Required Courses

These are the required pre-requisite and support courses for nursing. Each course must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher.

  • MATH 099 - Intermediate Algebra - 5 credits
  • PSYC 100 - Introduction to General Psychology - 5 credits
  • ENG 101 - English Composition - 5 credits
  • BIOL 241 - Anatomy & Physiology I - 6 credits
  • BIOL 242 - Anatomy & Physiology II - 6 credits
  • BIOL 260 - Microbiology - 6 credits
  • PSYC 200 - Lifespan Psychology - 5 credits
  • SOC 101 - Introduction to Sociology - 5 credits OR ANTH 206 - Cultural Anthropology - 5 credits
  • CHEM 121 - General Chemistry - 5 credits

Beginning Winter 2010:

  • AH 101/102 will become 2 credits of AH 104.
  • AH 131/132 will become 2 credits of AH 114.

These AH classes must be successfully completed 'C' or above prior to beginning NURS 104.

Mission and Philosophy

The mission and philosophy of the Lower Columbia College Nursing Department is authored by the nursing faculty and is congruent with the philosophy and mission of the institution.

The program is committed to providing excellence in nursing education that encompasses holistic caring, respect for individuality and diversity, accountability and responsibility, critical thinking, and clinical expertise.

Getting Started

To begin your educational journey to Nursing:

STEP 1: Apply to LCC to obtain a student identification number (required before completing the next step). There is no fee.

STEP 2: Send official college transcripts to: Bev Ylen, Health Programs Coordinator, Lower Columbia College, 1600 Maple Street; Longview, WA 98632.

STEP 3: Complete the nursing application for the desired option and send to the address above. Once your application is received, you will be assigned a nursing advisor.

Winter - Spring 2011 Admission:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 by 5 PM

Nursing Admission Testing: 

  • September 7-10, 2010

Campus-Based LPN to RN Application

  • No specific deadline. Contact Bev Ylen for admission availability
