How do international students spend their weekends? Life in Longview, a peaceful town surrounded by beautiful nature and free from the hustle and bustle of high buildings, offers a different weekend experience from the big city. So I interviewed some students about what they do on weekends.

Jane (From Kenya)
My weekend officially starts on Friday. I usually sleep in most of the day to recover from a busy week. In the afternoon, I focus on school work that’s due over the weekend. It’s a quiet, productive start that helps me feel a little more in control. Saturday begins slowly—I wake up late and enjoy a strong cup of coffee to ease into the day.
The afternoon is open for errands or social plans, but in the evening, I like going for a walk or bike ride to unwind. At night, I stay up late watching movies, enjoying the freedom to relax without a strict schedule. Sunday is my reset day. I take it slow, tidy up, and prepare for the week ahead. In the evening, I head to the beach to watch the sunset. That peaceful moment helps me refresh and refocus for the days to come.

Rina (From Japan)
On my weekend, I wake up slowly in the morning and go for a 20-minute walk before lunch if I can afford it. For lunch, I generally cook for myself, but sometimes I go out with friends to a Japanese restaurant or for hamburgers. In the afternoon, I work on assignments, play basketball at the gym, or go shopping with friends. In the evenings, I enjoy watching Netflix or YouTube with friends and chatting. Lately, I've been into making pizza with friends and going to Baskin-Robbins at night! I also sometimes call my family and friends in Japan on Friday nights and Saturdays in the U.S.
International students spend their weekends in a unique and meaningful way, like going for walks, hanging out with friends, watching movies, working on assignments, etc. The weather has been good recently, so many international students take walks and enjoy playing tennis and badminton. We don't live in a big city, but we always find ways to enjoy our weekends. I hope you enjoyed reading about how we spend our weekends. Maybe you will find something you would like to try when you come to LCC. Thank you for reading to the end!
