You Can Study Abroad!
International Programs at Lower Columbia College (LCC) offers students the opportunity to participate in exchange programs ranging from two-weeks to a year! LCC is a proud member of the Washington State Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA), which provides multiple study abroad programs each quarter.
The LCC International Programs office is available to help you find the study abroad program that fits your interests. We will walk you through the entire process, including applying for the study abroad program, registering for credit, pre-departure readiness, reverse culture shock, and more!
Each study abroad program will have unique requirements. The typical requirements include:
- Programs are open to students 18 years or older. Some programs may allow travelers under the age of 18 with additional requirements.
- Programs may require a minimum GPA or college-level credits earned prior to departure
- Most programs do not require prior foreign language proficiency to participate. Most programs welcome beginner level language learners.
- Financial aid and scholarships may apply.
WCCCSA Programs
LCC Students have the unique opportunity to take classes abroad that are taught by Washington State Community College faculty and earn credit at LCC. This opportunity is through the Washington State Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA). Programs are offered during fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters.
S Korea, Seoul - Summer 2024
Courses Offered:
- Korean Language
- Choice of 1-2 class from an approved list of courses.
- Enrollment in this program requires students to enroll Green River college and transfer classes back to LCC
Japan, Tokyo / Hachioji - Fall 2024
Courses Offered:
- Japanese Language & Culture (5 credits)
- Digital Photography (5 credits)
- Creative Writing (5 credits)
Freeman Asia Scholarship for Study in East or SE Asia
- Scholarship for up to $5000 towards a quarter-long study abroad program in E or SE Asia for those with demonstrated financial need
- Application deadline for the 24-25 academic year will open in early 2024
- Japan program (above) is an eligible program

Costa Rica - Summer 2024

Berlin, Germany - Spring 2024
Berlin, Germany is an international hub of vibrancy and culture. This program will use dynamic and exciting city as the backdrop to the courses offered.

Lyon, France - Fall 2024
Study in Lyon, rated the number one city in France for students. Lyon is France’s second largest city and an important European crossroad. Its remarkable location at the heart of Europe links Lyon – with an average of 90 minutes travel time – to all of the major European metropolises including Barcelona, Milan, Turin, and Geneva thanks to a network of transportation by air, road, or rail. The proximity of Provence, the Mediterranean, the Alps, and the large wine regions adds charm to the Lyon area.

CIEE
CIEE, a nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization, offers a variety of college study abroad programs covering semester, summer, and January terms. You can search CIIE programs based on location and academic discipline.
ISEP
ISEP offers various opportunities including Summer Programs, ISEP Direct, and Internships. LCC is not currently an ISEP Member or Affiliate, which limits your access for ISEP Exchange. You can search ISEP Programs by location and academic discipline.
Immersive Summer Programs / French Bootcamps
Community College in France (CCF) is a transatlantic initiative and commitment between the U.S. Department of State and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase and diversify student mobility between the U.S. and France. These short-term programs are available to LCC students, faculty, and staff.
Rennes School of Business (France)
Rennes School of Business, located in Rennes, France, is the most international business school in France, as 90% of faculty and over 50% of our 5,000 students come from all over the world to take part in our unique academic project. This school has been rewarded internationally for academic excellence with triple-crown accreditation by AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. This school is also accredited by the U.S Department of Education and FAFSA Eligible. Business classes are offered taught in English.
Fully-Funded External Programs
Summer Critical Language Scholarship Program
Spend 10 - 12 weeks in the summer studying a language of critical need. Most languages offered by the CLS Program (9 of 15) do not require applicants to have any experience studying critical languages. Application period for Summer opens in September and applications are due mid- November 15.
Germany - CBYX Exchange 2025-26 year
Intern and work in Germany for 1 year (limited to ages 18 ½ - 24) (full academic year)
Application period for 2025-26 will open in September 2024, applications will be due November 1, 2024.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Department of State, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals, between the ages of 18½–24, the opportunity to a one year exchange studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.
Frederick Douglass Global Scholars Summer Ireland Program
Travel with a cohort of other students to Dublin, Ireland from July 11 - August 6th (these dates could change). Requirements: The program invites applications from students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and are from ethnic backgrounds typically underrepresented on study abroad programs.
Applications for the program are due February 14th for the upcoming summer.
The program explores the impact that effective leaders have had on social justice movements and critical peace and conflict resolution efforts around the world. Frederick Douglass Global Fellows will explore conflict and injustice from various perspectives and the leaders who sought to affect positive change for their communities and their countries.
