Important Dates

First Term: LCC has four terms, or “quarters”, a year, and students can start any term. To decide which term will be your First Term, we encourage you to consider the average wait times for visa appointments. Fall is the most common First term. Note: Summer is LCC’s typical vacation term, which means there are fewer courses offered this term. Note: Winter term arrival falls around the New Year Holiday, and peak travel season in the United States. If you need help deciding your First Term, then contact us at international@lowercolumbia.edu.

Application Deadline: The date to submit your completed application and supporting documentation. This is the last day we will accept applications for the listed term. If your application is incomplete, then you may complete your application for the following term.

The application deadline is approximately three months before the First Term Start. This is intentional to allow you time to interview for a student visa and complete the required Admitted Student Next Steps.

**We strongly encourage you to apply as early as possible. Applying before the application deadline enables you to have more time to navigate the visa process (wait times, interviews, etc.). We suggest you review the Visa Appointment Wait Times to estimate the time between your application submission and visa interview.

First Term Payment Deadline: After you have received your visa and before your arrival at LCC, you are required to pay the full tuition and fees for your first term. Please visit the Tuition and Fees webpage for details about the First Term Payment.

Arrival Date: This is the last date you can arrive in the United States. You are not allowed to arrive after this day. Orientation, which is mandatory, begins the day after the Arrival Date. For those who will live in campus housing, this is the first date you can enter campus housing. If your experience limited flight availability to arrive on Arrival Day, then please connect with international@lowercolumbia.edu. You must maintain communication with the International Programs Office and LCC Housing Office if your arrival plans change at anypoint.

Step 1: Submit Application Documents Online

International Student Application Form

The international student application is for all international students, regardless of their current location or academic history (freshman, transfer, in the U.S., outside the U.S., etc). Applicants who need a student visa to enroll at Lower Columbia College are required to submit the international student application.

Proof of Financial Support

Proof of Financial Support consists of:

Official bank statement of you and/or your financial sponsors (Required). The official bank statement must meet the following criteria:
- Showing at least the 9 month estimated total in USD available in the account.
- Amount must be liquid funds or readily available (such as checking, savings, available lines of credit, etc). We do not accept proof of future funds (stocks, bonds, crypto, paystubs, immovable assets, etc).
- Statement must be dated for less than six months old at time of application.
- Proof should come in the form of a statement or letter directly from the financial institution on their letterhead.
- Bank statements must be complete. We cannot accept partial statements or statements with missing pages.
- If the source of funding is not in your name, you must include the bank account owner as one of your financial sponsors in your online application, and upload a completed Sponsor Declaration of Financial Support (more information below).
Sponsor Declaration of Financial Support (Required, if applicable). This identifies your financial sponsor and affirms their commitment to financially support you.
1. Download the Sponsor Declaration of Financial Support Form. You are required to provide a declaration for each sponsor.
2. Have your sponsor(s) complete and sign the form(s).
3. Upload the form to your online application.
Letter of Support from bank or financial support (Optional).
- You may optionally choose to provide an additional letter of support from your bank, financial institution, or financial supporter (relative, friend, scholarship provider, etc.). You can upload any additional letters to your online application.

Proof of English Proficiency

For Academic Programs

Students applying to an academic degree or certificate program must submit proof of English language proficiency. You must provide one of the following:

TOEFL – Score minimum requirement: 61. Official TOEFL score reports should be sent directly from ETS to LCC. The LCC school code is 4402. Unofficial score reports can be uploaded into the LCC international admissions application.
IELTS – Score minimum requirement: 5.5 (on academic version). Applicants must provide a scanned copy of the IELTS score report into the LCC international admissions application. LCC will verify electronically.
DuoLingo – Score minimum requirement: 90. Applicants should send their scores electronically to LCC.
Education in the U.S.

U.S. High School – Attended an accredited high school in the United States for a minimum of one academic year with a 2.75 GPA or higher. Attendance must be within two years of the start date at LCC. Official transcript is required.
U.S. College or University – Completion of English 101 with a grade of C or better at an accredited U.S. college or university. Official transcript is required.

Education outside the U.S.

Graduated from high school where the primary language of instruction was English. Applicants must submit proof of graduation and that English was the medium of instruction for your courses (such as a letter of the school administration). OR Graduation from a college or university in one of the English Proficiency Requirement Exempt Countries. Applicants must submit a transcript in their application.

For English Language Programs

Applicants applying to the Intensive English Language Program (IESL) are not required to provide proof of language proficiency in their admission application.

Our Intensive English Program (IESL) supports students beginning at any level with courses in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. Our IESL program is considered a LCC Pathway Program, preparing students for college-level academic programs.

Note: Students who are admitted into the Intensive English Program (IESL) are required to take DuoLingo Assessment Test for class level placement before arriving in the United States.

Step 2: After you receive your admission packet via email, print and sign your I-20

Print and sign your I-20 immediately. The link will expire if you do not download and print your I-20. Keep a digital and physical copy of your I-20. You will need the I-20 for your visa interview and for entry in the United States.
