Finals week can be stressful. Your schedule is full, your brain feels tired, and you might be drinking more coffee than water. Whether this is your first time or you’ve done it before, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. But don’t worry — you’re not alone, and there are ways to make finals easier.
One of the best things you can do is take care of your body and mind. That starts with food. Your brain needs energy to study and focus, so keep easy snacks nearby. Granola bars, fruit, trail mix — anything quick and simple. If you have a favorite food from home, enjoy it! Comfort food can help you feel more relaxed. And while coffee is part of the final experience, don’t forget to drink water too. Staying hydrated helps you think clearly and stay awake naturally.

Sleep is also important — even if it feels like there’s no time for it. Studying all night might seem helpful, but your brain needs rest to remember what you’ve learned. Try to get at least 6–7 hours of sleep if you can. Even short naps (15–30 minutes) can help you feel more alert. If you have trouble falling asleep, try listening to soft music or white noise. And here’s a tip: don’t study in bed. It’s too easy to fall asleep without meaning to!
Stress is part of finals week, and that’s okay. Everyone feels it. The important thing is to find ways to manage it. Take short breaks. Go for a walk. Listen to music that makes you feel good. Write down your thoughts or talk to a friend. Sometimes just saying “I’m stressed” out loud can help. And remember, Lower Columbia College has resources to support you — like tutoring, quiet study spaces, and counseling services if you need someone to talk to.
Here’s another important tip: don’t wait until the last week to study. Try to study a little every day and do your homework regularly. This helps you understand the material better and feel more confident. Studying isn’t just for exams — it’s for your future. What you learn now will help you when you go out into the world, find a job, and build a wonderful life. Learning is for you, not just for a test.

There are also a few small things that can make a big difference. Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” while you study. Bring a charger and extra snacks with you. Wear something comfortable — like a hoodie or fuzzy socks. And if you have any study habit that helps you focus, go for it. Little routines can help you feel more in control.
Finals are tough, but you are tougher. Take care of your body, give your brain breaks, and be kind to yourself. You don’t have to be perfect — just do your best. And remember: your grades don’t define who you are. You’re learning, growing, and doing something hard. That’s already a big win.

Do you have a favorite study snack or a special habit that helps you during finals? Share it with us — we’d love to hear your ideas and support each other through the week.
