My Summer Day in Longview

I usually go back to my home country every summer, but this summer, I decided to stay in the U.S. I spent some of my summer traveling to different states in the U.S., but not every week. In this blog, I will introduce what a typical summer day looks like for an international student in Longview, Washington.

Morning – Working at LCC

I work at two places at LCC: the International Programs Office and the University Center. Since I work fifteen hours per week, I usually spend half of the day on campus. There were fewer people on campus during the summer than during other quarters, so it was a little bit quieter and calmer. It's funny that I was on summer break, but I still went to school every day.

Afternoon – Studying Outside

I took one class online during the summer, so I did homework in the afternoon. Summer in Washington is perfect for spending time outside, and I often studied outside.

My Summer Hobbies

I have found plenty of ways to enjoy my summer here:

Taking care of plants
Making homemade jam
Crocheting
Diamond art
Word searches
Pottery
Going to local events

I especially enjoyed taking care of my cherry tomatoes and basil. I found out for myself that I love seeing them grow, and I want to keep growing plants even after summer.

Local Events in Longview

Longview has many summer local events for everyone, and they are free! I went to a concert and a movie night at Lake Sacajawea. There are also food trucks, so you can enjoy food while watching the performances. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the Squirrel Fest this year, but I highly recommend you visit if you have a chance. This event celebrates Longview’s famous squirrel bridges and attracts many visitors. They have fun activities, food, and more!

Since I had free time during my summer break, there were plenty of things I wanted to do, and in a good way, it was a busy summer filled with things I enjoyed. In this blog, I shared how I usually spend my summer on days when I am not traveling. I hope this gives you a little insight into how international students spend their summers. Contact International Programs

The office is open for students and visitors Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm and Fridays 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Office hours during the breaks may differ, and the campus is closed on Fridays during the Summer session. We are in Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7) from March through November, and Pacific Standard Time (UTC-8) from December through February.
