International students enjoyed their summer break in several ways. Some students went back to their home country and saw their family and friends. Some students stayed in the U.S. and explored new places. In this blog, I interviewed some students about how they spent their summer break!

Yuna (From Japan)

One of my best memories I experienced during the summer break is traveling to Washington, D.C., and New York at the beginning of July. I visited several museums in D.C., but my favorite experience was visiting the Library of Congress. They had a special exhibition on Independence Day, so I could get into some places where people are usually not allowed. During my trip, I also took a four-hour bus ride to New York for a day trip. I visited the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Times Square, the Natural History Museum, and other famous places. It was a busy day, but I really enjoyed it!

Jane (From Kenya)

I spent most of my summer working on-campus, but I also made sure to enjoy my time off. One of the highlights was hiking in Beaver Falls, Oregon (about 20-minutes from campus) with friends. We somehow missed the trail and ended up walking through the creek instead, which definitely wasn’t the plan! It was a little confusing at first, but we laughed the whole way and eventually made it to the waterfall. On the way back, we took the actuarial trail, and it honestly wasn’t nearly as exciting, so I’m glad we ended up taking the creek on the way there; it made the adventure way more memorable!

Li (From China)

I went back to my home country during the summer. My best memory from this summer was traveling to Xiamen, China, with my friends. It was a wonderful experience because we planned it 3 years ago. We took a boat to a beautiful island, where many buildings were over a hundred years old.
