Longview is a small town that gets a lot of rain. After living there for over two years, I’ve discovered plenty of things to enjoy indoors, so in this blog post, I’ll share some tips on how to make the most of rainy days!
Inside solo activities, I’ve tried
Since I moved here, I feel like I’ve become better at finding things I can enjoy on my own. At first, rainy days and quiet weekends sometimes felt boring, and I often spent too much time scrolling through social media. However, I started trying different indoor activities instead.
Some of the activities I’ve tried are:
- Crocheting
- Paint-by-numbers
- Drawing
- Puzzles
- Junk journaling
- Growing cacti
- Building model kits
- Ceramics (by taking classes)
Some activities require patience and time, but I think it’s definitely worth spending many hours. Focusing on one small activity for hours can feel relaxing and rewarding. These hobbies help me enjoy quiet time and make rainy days feel less depressing.
Inside Activities to Do with Friends
You don’t always have to entertain yourself alone! Sometimes, it’s nice to gather with friends and spend time together at home. My friends and I have found many fun indoor activities to enjoy together.
Some activities I do with my friends are:
- Board games
- Video games
- Baking
- Cooking foods from home and each other’s home countries
- Movie marathons
- Friendship bracelets making
- Playing the ukulele
- Taking a walk on a rainy day
The LCC Student Center rents the board games to students. I sometimes borrow some board games and play with my friends. I also like movie marathons. One time, I watched Marvel movies every weekend from the first to the last, which took me almost two months! It was a good motivation to finish my assignments on weekdays.
Taking a walk on a rainy day was also fun. We went to the lake for a walk, enjoyed the sound of the rain, and got wet! It sounds crazy, but it was actually exciting and memorable. In fact, many people who live here don’t use umbrellas even when it’s raining. We enjoy feeling the rain on our skin! If you try it, make sure to take a warm shower afterward so you don’t catch a cold.
At first, I didn’t know what to do on rainy days and spent all my time on social media, but now I’ve learned to find little joys in indoor hobbies and spending time with friends. You can create your own enjoyment! Living in a city with so much rain has actually helped me appreciate the beauty of taking things slow.
