Where can we get our country's food in the U.S.?

Many international students miss the food from their home country and cannot travel home often for visits to family and friends, as well as home cooking. Here in Longview, we get most of our ingredients at nearby grocery stores, but sometimes it is not enough to recreate home country dishes. Sometimes we go to the supermarkets in the nearby big city of Portland, OR to get more stuff. So in this blog, I will show you the LCC International Program trip to international grocery stores in Portland!

Tanya’s European Deli

This store sells European foods. For example, German spaghetti, Russian snacks, Polish tomato sauce, and more. One of our international students from Germany bought German spaghetti and really enjoyed it!

Uwajimaya

This store sells Asian food, especially Japanese. They have raw fish, fresh meat, vegetables, and snacks. Many Japanese students bought udon, natto, and Japanese-specific sauces. I also bought my favorite Japanese snacks and ramen noodles. I will cook yakisoba, which is stir-fried soba noodles, and I am so excited to eat it!

H Mart

This store also sells Asian food, but especially Korean. A Chinese student bought sliced pork, leeks, and instant noodles. He will cook some Chinese food with sliced pork and leeks. Some other students bought cream puffs, and a Korean student bought kimchi.

I introduced three stores in Portland that we visited on the trip. This trip was very helpful for international students because those stores offer a significantly larger selection of groceries compared to grocery stores in Longview. We go on a trip to international grocery stores every year. We can buy food from our home countries, but you can also discover different countries’ food! I hope this information will help future international students feel more comfortable and prepared while living in Longview. Thank you for reading!
