You can be on the path to making a difference in your community by earning a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Teacher Education (BAS-TE). LCC's program will help you gain knowledge and skills to effectively work with students and collaborate with professionals throughout the field. This program is tailored for working adults with options for residency teacher certification or a focus in early care and education. LCC offers endorsements in elementary education and early childhood education.

Program Details
Classes are designed as hybrid courses, which means each class meets once per week with the remaining coursework online.
Part-time
- Classes begin in July
- Hybrid classes are offered Tuesday or Thursday evenings, depending on cohort
- Hybrid course schedule remains consistent throughout the program
- Part -time students will complete 9 – 11 credits each term (summers required)
- The degree requires practicums and student teaching in addition to coursework
Full-time
- Classes begin in September
- Hybrid classes are offered Tuesday or Thursday evenings, depending on cohort.
- Hybrid course schedule remains consistent throughout the program
- Full-time students will complete between 15-18 credits per quarter
- Fall, winter, and spring term schedules (summers optional)
- The degree requires practicums and student teaching in addition to coursework

Steps to Apply
- New students and returning students who have not attended LCC within the past two (2) years should apply to LCC and select the baccalaureate option in the application. (Hint: Click on the Application Number following submission to view your new CTC Link Student ID number. You will need it next)
- Complete the BAS-TE Application including your CTC Link student ID prior to the deadline to apply. Course requirements must be complete prior to program start dates. Recommendation: Apply early for timely guidance.

- Schedule an advising appointment with Stacie Johnson by contacting LCC's One Stop.
Admission into the BAS-TE program is merit based. Meeting the minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission as the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of available enrollment spaces. To be placed into the admissions pool, applicants must complete and submit the following:
- Completion of all BAS-TE application materials
- Proof of an earned associate degree or 90 college level credits from an institutionally accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Successful completion of the following courses with a 2.0 or better:
- ENGL& 101-English Composition I
- MATH& 107 or higher (excluding Math 131): MATH&131 and MATH& 132 recommended
- EDUC& 115-Child Development
- EDUC& 150-Child Family and Community
- EDUC& 205 - Intro to Education w/Field Experience
- HIST& 136-US History I or HIST& 137-US History II
Additional Admissions Requirements
- Completion of FERPA release (in application) to share information with OSPI & PESB
- ACT, SAT or WEST-B prior to starting the program
Required After Admittance into the BAS-TE Program
Office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction (OSPI) Background Check (fingerprinting will be required) - approximate cost $82
General Education Required Courses
The following courses must be completed prior to a bachelor’s degree obtainment. Some courses can be included in the two-year degree or be completed during the bachelor’s program in addition to the required courses. A minimum of 50 quarter credits of general education courses are required in the following distribution areas prior to graduation.
- Communications 10 credits
- ENGL& 101 English Composition I*
- 5 additional credits from the LCC Communications distribution list
- Social Science 10 credits
- EDUC& 115* Child Development (also meets Human Relations requirement)
- HIST& 137* or HIST& 136*
- Quantitative Skills 10 credits
- MATH& 107 or higher (excluding Math& 131): MATH& 131 and MATH& 132 Recommended
- Natural Science - 5 credits with lab
SAT? ACT? If you have ACT/SAT scores from high school, please submit them with your application! Ensure that your name and dates show on the testing results.
If you have no SAT/ACT results, West B results can be attained. View our Teacher Education Testing page for additional options.
In addition to BAS-TE courses, applicants seeking Washington State residency teacher certification must complete the following:
- Passing score in either the Early Childhood or Elementary Education endorsement assessment
(or both for dual endorsement). National Evaluation Series (NES) Test 101-early childhood education, or tests 102 and 103 Elementary Education sub-tests
1 & 2 are content knowledge assessments required prior to being certified to teach
in a particular subject area.
- Study materials are available at the LCC Library.
- Search for NES to locate materials.
- Completion and submission of the BAS-TE Pedagogy Assessment.
- Successful completion of required clinical hours.
- Meet all content knowledge requirements of OSPI for residency teacher certification
Graduates that select the certification route are prepared to earn residency teacher certification in the state of Washington through OSPI and teach grades pre-K through 8th grade in the public and private school system.
Graduates that select the early childhood education route are prepared to teach children birth through 3rd grade in early care and education settings such as Head Start, childcare centers and preschool programs.

Eligibility for Washington State Teacher Residency Certification
In accordance with U.S. Department of Education Regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v), the teacher education program at Lower Columbia College is known to meet the state education requirements for residency teacher certification in the state of Washington. Lower Columbia College has not determined if the teacher education program meets the state education requirements of any other state or any U.S. Territory. Those seeking residency teacher certification in any state or U.S. Territory outside of Washington are advised to contact the state regulatory agency for the state for which this information is needed. The Office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction(OSPI) has resources that may be helpful.
