Audio services provide audio materials usually in the form of audio textbooks for
students with a documented disability who has been approved for this academic accommodation
by the DAS Coordinator.
The following procedures identify the responsibilities of the College and the student:
Eligibility Requirements
The student must provide the Disability and Access Services office with documentation
verifying the need for audio reproduction of course materials. Documentation may not
be required for students with obvious physical disabilities.
Student Responsibilities:
- Students should give DAS a minimum of six week notice to arrange for educational materials
on audiotape by providing their schedule and a Quarterly Request for Accommodations
form to DAS.
- Student will utilize DAS Early Priority Registration, which is usually eight weeks
prior to the start of the quarter.
- Student must purchase any textbook or educational materials that are to be converted
to audio in the DAS office.
- Student will pick up e-text materials from the DAS Office in a timely manner. If audio
materials are not picked up in a timely manner, services may be suspended until the
student meets with the DAS Coordinator.
- Student will return all audiotapes, materials, or devices, produced or created by
DAS Office immediately upon the completion of the quarter. If the materials are not
returned, and other arrangements have not been approved, a hold may be placed on his
or her records.
- Student is responsible for all audio materials borrowed from outside agencies, to
include returning the tapes or equipment following the agency's policies and procedures.
- Student must agree not to duplicate or lend audio materials to other individuals.
- Student understands that DAS Office will attempt to create audio format but there
may be incidences where they are waiting on publishers or cases where they provide
sections of the book at a time due to the volume of audio requests. In this case DAS
may ask the student to provide a schedule of their assigned readings so they can attempt
to have materials ready in time.
Disability and Access Services Responsibility
- DAS will send a letter or email to the student outlining the student’s approved academic
accommodations once initially approved for services.
- DAS will make every effort to provide the student with all requested educational material
on audio in a timely manner. In the event notice is not given in a timely manner,
DAS will attempt to provide the student with the requested educational materials on
audiotape on an as needed basis.
- DAS will arrange for audio educational materials to be provided by outside agencies
when available.
- DAS will inform the student when audio files created by DAS or CDs ordered are ready
to be picked up.
The above responsibilities have been explained to me, and I understand my responsibilities.
