Diesel Mechanic Technology

- Length: Full Year Class
- Class Time: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Wednesday 7:30 am – 9:15 am.
- Credits: 3.0 high school credits, 5.0 college credits (0.5 per Trimester completed with a grade of B or higher)
- Graduation Requirement: CTE, Elective
- Prerequisite: NONE
- Location: Lower Columbia College campus
MUST PROVIDE OWN TRANSPORTATION
Students will gain hands-on experience with heavy duty trucks and mobile heavy equipment. Students will learn the fundamentals of diesel engine diagnosis and repair, basic electricity and electronics, hydraulics, air brake systems, fluid power circuits, powertrains, HVAC, transmission and axle assemblies and perform preventative maintenance. Safe shop practices, basic tool identification and maintenance, and operation of lifting equipment using proper rigging equipment and techniques will also be covered. In addition to technical skills, units will also cover work ethic, leadership, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Students will also have an opportunity to train on LCC’s state-of the-art truck driving simulator. Students earning a B or better in the course are eligible to earn 5 college credits for DHET 100 Essentials of Mechanics.
