It’s Never Too Late for a Second Chance
How LCC’s College and Career Preparation (formerly Adult Basic Education Program)
Transformed One Alum’s Life
"I left school when I was 17 years old, never expecting that I would return. For many years, finishing my education felt out of reach. However, in 2022, at the age of 51, I made the decision to go back to school through the Adult Education program at Lower Columbia Community College. That decision changed my life.

This program gave me something I had been missing for decades—another chance. The support, encouragement, and structure provided by the instructors and staff helped me stay committed and believe in myself. It wasn’t just about earning a diploma; it was about restoring confidence, building self-worth, and proving that it is never too late to achieve your goals.
Earning my high school diploma and being voted Adult Student of the Year is one of the accomplishments I am most proud of. It has opened doors for me and given me a renewed sense of purpose. More importantly, it has shown me—and hopefully others—that second chances matter and can truly transform lives.
Programs like Adult Education are essential for people like me who, for many different reasons, were not able to complete their education earlier in life. Without this opportunity, many individuals would never have the chance to go back, finish what they started, and improve their future.
I strongly urge you to consider the impact this program has on students and the community. It is more than just a class—it is a lifeline, a second chance, and a path forward."
