Through referral from the Department of Social and Health Services, the WorkFirst program supports parents receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). WorkFirst provides low-income families with stability and a path toward self-sufficiency. Participants receive additional guidance and aid while they are attending a vocational or basic skills program.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have a program plan and sub-plan in ctcLink.
- Must be a current recipient of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Benefits
- High School Equivalency Exam preparation class and waiver of testing fees.
- High School completion through the High School+ (HS+) program.
- English Language Learning (ELL) classes.
- Education in full or part-time degree or certificate programs and Continuing Education.
- WorkFirst Work Study opportunities (paid employment).
- Attendance and participation tracking for DSHS.
- Career planning.
- WorkFirst Financial Aid for students who are ineligible for federal financial aid funding consisting of tuition, fees, and books.
Important Note: Support is is only available as funding allows. Washington State requires all parents receiving WorkFirst to participate in a work-like activity to receive their cash grant.
