Tuition Waiver for State Employees

State employees may enroll in up to two classes, on a space-available basis, per quarter for $10.00 per class plus mandatory class fees. State employees using the tuition waiver must pay for their own books and materials in addition to any class fees.


This waiver is authorized by RCW 28B.15.558.

Who is eligible

  • Permanent employees in classified service under RCW 41.06 (State Civil Service Law)
  • Permanent employees governed by RCW 41.56 (Public Employees Collective Bargaining)
  • Permanent classified employees and exempt paraprofessional employees of technical colleges
  • Faculty, counselors, librarians and exempt professional/administrative employees at institutions of higher education
  • Teachers and other certificated instructional staff at public common and vocational schools
  • Classified staff employed at public common schools, when the employee is taking courses relevant to their work assignment or coursework that is part of a teacher preparation program

Enrollment Limitations

  • This waiver applies only to state-supported courses, and not to contract, self-support, community education, apprenticeship, selective admissions or other courses not classified as state-supported. 
  • Employees are limited to two courses per quarter under this waiver. Preference is given to employees of Lower Columbia College. 
  • No new sections may be created to accommodate students under this waiver. 
  • Students may not register for classes early to hold a space and then use the waiver. Students who register for a class without following the enrollment process below will not receive a waiver. 

How to enroll at Lower Columbia College


Lower Columbia College employees

  1. If you do not have an active student account, submit an application for admission. If you have not enrolled in an LCC class within the past two years, you must reapply.
  2. Complete the applicant section of the State Employee Waiver Form and have Human Resources complete the eligibility verification section 
  3. Submit the completed form to registration@lowercolumbia.edu
  4. We will add you to each class, on a space-available basis, after the first class meeting (generally on day two or three of the quarter). 
  5. Pay $10 per class plus all applicable fees

Other state employees

  1. If you do not have an active student account, submit an application for admission. If you have not enrolled in an LCC class within the past two years, you must reapply.
  2. Complete the applicant section of the State Employee Waiver Form
  3. Submit to your employer's HR department for eligibility verification
  4. Have your HR department send the completed form to LCC Registration at registration@lowercolumbia.edu
  5. We will add you to each class, on a space-available basis, between the third and tenth days of the quarter. 
  6. Pay $10 per class plus all applicable class fees.
