About the Gym & Fitness Center

The Gym & Fitness Center was remodeled in 2014 through a student-led Fitness Center Upgrade and Use Fee.

The renovation included an updated gym; new fitness center; classroom space for dance, yoga, health and continuing education classes; community spaces; coaching offices, locker rooms and a juice bar.

About the Upgrade Fee

In 2005 LCC students voted 278-36 to impose a $2.50 per credit fee to bring the Myklebust Gymnasium, built in 1959, up to ADA code, and to remodel and expand the small fitness center. In 2011 the Washington State Legislature approved $2 million in matching capital funds.

About the Use Fee

In 2015 LCC students voted to support the Fitness Center Use fee of $20 per student per quarter to fund continued operation of the Gym & Fitness Center, including staffing and leasing of cardio equipment.

Jarad's Top 5 Reasons to Get Fit

  • Exercise increases circulation, which has a profound effect on your capacity to learn.
  • Exercise stimulates the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is associated with problem-solving and complex thought.
  • Aerobic exercise increases creativity potential during activity, and for up to two hours following your workout.
  • Exercise relieves stress, and a reduction in stress helps you focus on learning.
  • Exercising jump-starts the creation of new brain cells, which increases cognitive ability if combined with learning.
