What is Guided Pathways?

Guided Pathways is an educational strategy that simplifies the entry and course selection process for students. This research-based approach is a proven way to help more students successfully graduate and/or transfer. A core component is the adoption of "meta-majors" to help students figure out the general career direction they're headed within the first quarter. LCC’s current list of "meta-majors" (which enhance rather than replace individual degrees and certificates) includes:

  • Accounting, Business and Information Technology
  • Arts and Communication
  • Education
  • Health and Wellness
  • Manufacturing, Trades and Transportation
  • Social Science, Humanities and Public Service
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

Funding for Guided Pathways

Lower Columbia College was selected along with four other institutions in 2018 to receive $500,000 over five-years from College Spark Washington to implement the Guided Pathways approach. The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges matched the grant, bringing the five-year total to $1 million.
