How to use Navigate in your day-to-day advising.
Appointment Scheduling
This should be done via:
- Navigate
- Kiosk
- Reception staff
Requirements:
- Set up availability in Navigate. If you are not taking appointments, you need to put “Drop Ins” in your Navigate Availability.
- Frequently monitor Outlook calendar for appointments scheduled.
Preparing for an Appointment
Review student profile in advance of appointment:
- Log in to Navigate
- Find the student via the upcoming appointments section on the homepage
OR - Search for the student's ID number or name in the quick search bar
Requirements:
- “Overview” tab
- “Reports/Notes” tab
- Path Items (entry advising)
Optional:
- Message student via email or text if they need to prepare or bring additional materials to appointment.
Meet with Student
Add things to discuss during an appointment:
- Review career plan
- Barriers
- Review academic plan
- Discuss resources
- Agree on next steps
Requirements:
- Please review the students’ path during each advising appointment to ensure they are not overlooking key enrollment steps.
Appointment Follow-Up
Complete advising summary report immediately following each advising appointment.
- Fill out applicable comment boxes
- Send Next Steps to students
- Schedule follow-up appointment (if needed)
Requirements:
- Complete all yes/no questions.
- Document interaction/appointment with students.
- Follow the guidelines for writing advising notes.
