At Lower Columbia College (LCC), we believe you know yourself best. That’s why we offer the Math & English Directed Self-Placements. They give you clear and simple information about courses offered at LCC so you may select the starting point that feels right for you, your skills, and your goals.
Who can skip the Math & English DSP?
Please complete our quick Placement Questionnaire to determine if you can skip the math and/or English DSP because of your previous experience(s):
- Free; There is no cost for students looking to enroll at LCC.
- May be taken online, without a proctor, at any time that fits your schedule.
- 15-30 minutes per self-placement (2 total; Math & English)
- A set of questions asking about your confidence and previous experience with Math & English, both in high school and beyond.
- There are no “right or wrong” answers.
- Apply to LCC
- Obtain your ctcLink ID number (Also called your Student ID number)
- You may use scratch paper and a calculator. Please note, you are not required to solve any math problems, but checking your work while choosing your comfort level may help you get a more accurate LCC Placement.
- You may complete the DSP(s) anytime, anywhere, without a proctor, or you can visit our Testing & Proctoring Center in person, or meet with a proctor via Zoom: Placement Testing Hours & Locations

Preparation: You will not need to prepare ahead of time before completing this Self-Placement.
Note: This is NOT a test. The Directed Self-Placements will help you determine your first English or math course at LCC by determining your comfort level, not by scoring right or wrong answers.
