Coming prepared with these things will help you get the most out of your tutoring session. However, it is not required that you bring anything to your appointment.
- Notes from the lectures
- Any books or reading material required by the instructor
- Draft a list of questions that you have prior to meeting with a tutor
- Any prompts or rubrics from the instructor so we can make sure we tailor the session towards your instructors expectations
- Bring a goal or an expected outcome that you want to accomplish by the end of the session to share with your tutor!
Expect to be set up for success!
Instead of doing the problems for you, tutors will ask you questions and show you helpful resources that will help you excel in your class. Our goal is to help you become a confident, independent learner!
LCC tutors are current students who work closely with your faculty to make sure we are providing you with the best support possible.
Drop-in or schedule an appointment as soon as you start to feel "lost" in your class.
You will not get the results you are looking for by waiting until the very last minute or the last week of the quarter to ask for help.

You can always drop by the tutoring center to see if we have someone available to help. However, we do get booked up quickly, so it never hurts to call ahead.
We typically need new tutors starting at the end of Spring quarter or the beginning of Summer/Fall quarters. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, follow these steps:
- Instructor permission is required to become a tutor. Your first step should be to reach out to your instructor asking if they would be willing to approve you as a tutor for that class.
- After you have the approval, reach out to the Tutoring Center Program Manager via email (tutor@lowercolumbia.edu) or by calling (360) 442-2572.
