Summary: Links to email addresses let people quickly and easily send an email to an email address using their preferred email client.
Links to email addresses may be referred to as 'mailtos', or 'mailto links'.
Email links should always include a subject line.
Components of an Email Link
- Link text - part that is visibly clickable, and that communicates where the link goes when clicked. Typically consists of email address, i.e., yourname@lowercolumbia.edu
- Hyperlink (Address) - address the email link routes to when clicked.
- Subject - Title that appears in the subject line field of the email.
Create Email Links (Mailto Link)
- Key in the email address, select it, and copy it.
- Click the 'Insert/Edit Mailto' button on your toolbar.
- Paste the email address into the Address field you copied in step 1.
- Add a subject line to the Subject field. This will insert a subject line into the email that is sent. Recommended subject line content: Inquiry from [name of web page]. Example: Inquiry from Library Contact Us page.
- Click OK.
- Save page
- Submit for publish.
