Summary: Contact files display at the bottom of web pages and play an important role in providing your audience with critical information on how to contact the department in person, by telephone, or by email.

Accessing your Contact File

Navigate to your section and access your contact file by doing one of the following:

Option 1:

  • Access the blue 'Global Navigation Bar' at the top of OU Campus.
  • Click 'Content' and select 'Pages' to display your section in the main window
  • Click the '_assets' folder, then select the 'contact.inc.' file.

Option 2:

  • Access your sidenavigation menu by clicking the yellow 'Show File Navigation' folder at the top left of your screen (if it not already open).
  • Navigate to your section (if needed), and click the '_assets' folder, then select the 'contact.inc.' file.

Editing your Contact File (contact.inc)

Contact files generally feature the name of the department or service, followed by a sentence explaining hours or appointment requiments, etc. Below that are three columns containing variations of:

Employee Name & Title

Phone Number

Email Address

Social Media Link

  • Contact Web Coordinator to place icon and/or link to approved social media sites.

Special Hours Information

  • List any special open/closed hours, as appropriate.

Turn your Contact file on or off

See Properties for specific help topic.

  • Check out the page on which you wish to manage your contact file, and access the Properties tab in your Page Actions Toolbar. Note, if you have not checked out your page, you will not be able to see your properties.
  • Scroll to 'Page Options/Show Contact Section'.
  • Check the 'Yes' box to display the Contact file.
    • This will display the Contact file located inside your section. To display another Contact file, navigate to that file and select it.
  • Leave the 'Yes' box unchecked if you do not want to display any Contact file.

About Icons in Contact Files

You may notice intuitive icon shapes in your contact file. See available Icons. Selected icons are accessible in Snippets. Typically, management of icons requires access to (and basic understanding of) html code. Contact your Web Coordinator if you need this.
