LCC offers a variety of clubs and organizations for students. However, the most relevant club for international students is the International Club. The name is “International,” but the club welcomes all students! This club connects international students and local students. It brings people together through activities, events, and encourages greater curiosity and understanding of people and countries around the world. In this blog, I interviewed the club leaders.
Interview with the co-presidents, Yu (international student from Japan) and Fiona (International student from Germany), and vice-president, Yuika (international student from Japan)
Yu: Usually, we do some activities that relate to countries, such as a potluck or a music sharing. We aim to bring together international students and local students, fostering strong connections between them. Also, we do a field trip once a quarter, which happens outside of campus. This is a great chance to get to know each other besides an hour weekly club meeting.
Fiona: We have some really fun activities planned for this quarter. We already had a cultural music sharing event, a potluck, and a joint meeting with the anime club. For the upcoming meetings, we will do some Christmas activities (including a Secret Santa). We’re also planning a field trip to an escape room in Vancouver in December.
Yuika: You can just show up at the club anytime! If you have any questions, you can contact Andie or the Co-presidents, Yu and Fiona. Even if you’re just curious, feel free to drop by. We’d love to meet new members and welcome you to our club!
Fiona: This quarter, we meet in the Diversity and Equity Center at the Student Center on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Club members determine the specific day and time each year based on class schedules.
Yu: My favorite activity is pumpkin carving. It was a good chance to experience American-style
Halloween. At first, I was a little bit hesitant because the pumpkin was big and hard,
but gradually I got used to carving it. Also, I enjoyed cooking pumpkin seeds and
cookies that use the inside of the pumpkin.
Fiona: I enjoyed every meeting, but especially the potluck. I loved trying new types of
food and hearing the stories about where they originated and what everyone associates
with them.
Yuika: My favorite activity so far was the collaborative coloring event we held with the
Anime Club during International Education Week. It was fun to connect with others
through our shared love of anime. I really enjoyed seeing everyone relax, be creative,
and interact in a friendly atmosphere. Events like this make the club feel like a
welcoming community.
Yuika: In the future, I hope the club can organize more community service and outreach activities to connect with the local community. It would also be really fun to have more collaborative events with other clubs, so we can try new things and meet even more people. I think it would be a great way for everyone to learn from and support each other.
Yu: Anyone from anywhere is welcome to our international club. Just come and enjoy being together. We are waiting for you!
Fiona: As a foreign student, it has been really difficult for me to meet people and connect. The International Club helped me build connections and get to know other students, and I’m really grateful for that experience. That’s why I would recommend everyone to come to at least one meeting and see for themselves. It’s the best way to find out what the club is all about.
Yuika: I encourage everyone to join the International Club, even if just once, to experience a welcoming and fun community. It’s a great place to make friends, learn about different cultures, and create unforgettable memories. Don’t hesitate, come and be part of our international family!!

インターナショナルクラブってどんな活動をしているの？
LCCには様々なクラブ活動がありますが、その中でも留学生に関係が深いのがインターナショナルクラブです。名前には”international”とついていますが、留学生や現地の生徒関係なくすべての生徒を歓迎します！様々な活動やイベント、異なる文化を通して、多くの生徒と交流を深めることができます。このブログでは、クラブの部長2人のYu（日本人留学生）と Fiona (ドイツ人留学生)、副部長のYuika（日本人留学生）にインタビューしました！
Yu: みんなで料理を持ち寄せるポットラックや世界各国の音楽を共有したりなど、いつも異文化に関連した活動を行っています！私たちは現地の学生たちと留学生が繋がりを持つことを目的に活動しています。また、毎学期1回、学校外にみんなで遠足に出かけたりもします。これはクラブ時間外にいろいろな生徒と仲良くなる良いチャンスです！
Fiona: 秋学期はいろいろな楽しい活動をたくさん企画しました！今までに世界各国の音楽を共有したり、ポットラック、アニメクラブとの合同イベント、12月にはクリスマスイベント（シークレットサンタ）を行います！遠足には、脱出ゲームにみんなで行く予定です！
*ポットラックというのは、自分たちで料理を持ち寄り共有する集まりのことです！
Yuika: クラブにはいつでも気軽に遊びに来てください！質問があれば、クラブ顧問の
Andieか部長のYuとFionaにご連絡ください。興味があるだけでもOKなので、ぜひ遊びに来てくださいね！新しいメンバーと出会えるのを楽しみにしています。
Fiona: 秋学期は、毎週水曜日の午後2時から3時まで、スチューデントセンターの2階で行っていました！毎学期生徒にアンケートを取って、なるべく授業時間と被らないように活動時間を決めています。
Yu: 私の一番好きな活動はパンプキンカービングです！アメリカのハロウィーンを体験する良い機会でした。最初はカボチャが大きく硬かったので少し苦戦しましたが、次第に彫ることに慣れていきました。また、カボチャの種を調理したり、カボチャの中身を使ったクッキーを作ったりするのも楽しめました。
Fiona: いつも楽しい活動が盛りだくさんですが、私もポットラックがお気に入りです！いろいろな国の郷土料理について学んだり、実際に食べてみるという経験ができて良かったです！
Yuika: これまでで一番楽しかったのは、アニメ部と合同で行った塗り絵イベントです。アニメへの共通の愛を通じて他の人々と繋がることができて楽しかったです。皆がリラックスし、和気あいあいと交流する様子を見るのが本当に微笑ましかったです。こうしたイベントがあるからこそ、クラブは温かいコミュニティのように感じられます。
Yuika: 今後、クラブが地域とのつながりを深めるため、より多くの地域奉仕活動や交流イベントを企画してほしいです。また、他のクラブとの共同イベントを増やせば、新しいことに挑戦でき、さらに多くの人と出会えるのでとても楽しいと思います！皆が互いに学び合い、支え合う素晴らしい機会になると思います。

Fiona: 留学生として、人との出会いや交流の場を探すことが、最初は難しかったです。しかし、インターナショナルクラブに入ってからは多くの学生と人脈を築き、知り合うことができました！そのため、インターナショナルクラブには心から感謝しています。だからこそ、皆さんには一度このクラブに参加してもらい、このクラブの良さを自分の目で確かめてほしいと思います！
